Pikurl,
I recently read
your review of my webpage, The Everchanging Sailormoon Gateway.
I'm not sure how to take it, but I'm not taking it as a flame.
It
wasn't intended to be an attack or a flame.
Seriously though,
I find it hard to see what your real problem with my oage is, if
it's as trivial as a boring layout.
A
boring layout does not motivate the viewer to browse the page, would
you watch a television show if it was incredibly boring?
We don't have a "real" problem with your page.
It is layout, and nothing more. We don't review pages for personal
reasons.
Whoa
there... layout is trivial? Layout is every bit as important as
information, and I don't care what anyone else has to say about
it. A page with the quality of information (like Janelle's) deserves
to look better. I refuse to believe that people would prefer a page
(or any product) with an older interface than one with a new, sparkly,
user-friendly one. Aesthetic beauty IS key... then again, I'm an
art student, so I've got a bit of a bias.
The layout WORKS.
You have to admit, it's much easier than some of those frame laden
pages. It may be boring, but I'm going for the efficiency, not the
prettiness factor.
Sometimes
frames are more efficient than a tables layout. Many page offer
a choice. Prettiness should be an issue. You wouldn't go to the
SONY homepage and see something that innovative and original, you
would see something refreshing and eye catching. Also, I found it
difficult to navigate through your page. It took me twenty minutes
to find info on the Sailorsenshi. Maybe if you put a sitemap on
your page or all your links on the main page so that people can
find what they want.
It seriously is not THAT efficient. The main
page takes a long time to load up because of all the awards and
such.
I also have
alot of things to do in my real life and don't exactly have the
time to update it every single day.
Same
goes with me. However, if your page is important to you, then you
should take the time to update it. A little surprise on a page as
popular as yours can be an incredible boost.
Changing the layout is not updating it every
day. Not every page needs to be redone, and you can take things
at a slow pace and gradually redo pages.
I'm not going
to change the name of a webpage that's been up and around for two
years.
We
didn't say that you should change it. I would not change the title
of a page that has been around for two years either.
Yes, other pages
are starting to look like mine. Yes, there is information on it
that can be got everywhere else it seems, but that's NOT how it
was when it first started,
It
started out original. We are not blaming you for having your information
and html stolen.
and how much
else can I do on Sailormoon anyway?
Not
too much. There are a lot of Sailormoon pages. Maybe make your page
more interactive?
I'm not angered
by your review, just a little frustrated at what it takes to please
people nowadays.
I
have had similar problems in the past with my other homepages.
We're pleased, thrilled and joyed with your
page. It's just hard to navigate and needs a new look.
As for Senshi
bias, everyone has it. Even Hitoshi Doi, who everyone on earth seems
to worship has a bias.
I
do not worship Doi. Actually, Doi's page isn't the best thing out
there, there is a lot of missing information and etcetera, and it
is rarely updated.
I happen to be a huge fan of his... and yes
everyone does have senshi bias but lot's of people at least try
and give equal amounts of information on all the senshi, and the
save the special stuff for shrines and such.
Quite frankly,
there's a hell alot more to say about Hotaru than there is about
Makoto. Although Hotaru was really barely in one series, she's got
a more developed and long history.
I
am familiar with Hotaru's history.
Also, I've never
said I was the only one to read manga or see the original series.
I
realize that, but keep in mind that some people have reviewed the
same parts of the manga as you have and have similar ideas. Not
just you.
It's
certainly implied on your main page, Janelle-sensei!
You and I both
agree the web has too many shitty ass sites,
Ah,
the love of a crappy Sailormoon page. {sarcasm}
I'm implying
by my comment about reading the manga that my site's information
is *accurate* which is more than I can say about alot of pages.
I
know your page is accurate, virtually flawless when it comes to
information. People recognise it, that's why your page is so popular.
We don't have much to say about your information,
other than to say it's one of the best pages for it.
I'm not quite
sure what you want me to do about my webpage, since you didn't exactly
give me any suggestions that don't seem to be trivial.
Maybe
a refreshing new look? That would be nice. I am more than willing
to help you out with it if you need me to.
There is a wealth of resources for such things
on the net, and even Pikurl and I could be a help.
P.S. If you
think *my* page is bad, I really want to see what you consider very
good.
Your
page isn't {BAD}, it just needs to improve in design.
Your page is not bad, that's for sure. However
it's been around for two years and the design and HTML shows it.
Note, I'm not
saying my page is awesome or anything, just above average.
I
agree with you to the extent that your info surpasses most other
pages I've seen.
